If you have been instructed to how to remove a running suture by a healthcare professional, here are the general steps to follow:

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

Gently clean the area around the suture with an antiseptic solution, such as rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. Use a clean cotton ball or swab and wipe the area in a circular motion starting from the center of the wound.

Using sterile scissors or a sterile scalpel, carefully cut the knot at one end of the suture. Be sure to cut close to the skin and avoid pulling on the suture.

Grasp the end of the suture with a pair of sterile tweezers or forceps, and gently pull it out of the wound in the same direction as the original stitch. Be sure to pull the suture out slowly and steadily, keeping it at the same angle as it was inserted.

Once you have removed the suture, apply pressure to the wound with a sterile gauze pad or bandage to help stop any bleeding.

Repeat steps 3-5 for each suture until all have been removed.

Once all the sutures have been removed, clean the area again with an antiseptic solution and apply a sterile bandage or dressing if necessary.

It is important to follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare professional, as the steps may vary depending on the type of suture used and the location of the wound. If you experience any pain, bleeding, or signs of infection, be sure to contact your healthcare professional right away.
